Idk how to explain it, but i usually shade the roots, make it lighter at the ends, shade the strands, and add spikey highlights and call it good enough. But honestly just experiement with multiple different ways and im sure you'll find your style for it! Goodluck! :D

Central themes i enjoy are gothic, war and fantasy but with a human aspect despite most of my characters looking like big scary spikey monsters 😅 While not pictured here the main five in my story are inspired by that trope you see in fantasy rpgs race selection system

While reading i imagine it to be 'supposed to be spikey-but have alot of broken scale' with dark red colour that glows once it breathes out, it has ancient looking, somehow i imagine it has similar chonkiness to HTTYD2 dragon but without huge horn and far huge wings
