Sir John Tenniel (1820-1914) was an English illustrator, graphic humorist and political cartoonist. Knighted in 1893. He's remembered for his illustrations in the Alice books by Lewis Carroll. They were engraved onto blocks of wood by the Brothers Dalziel, and printed from these.

The sublime Alice in Wonderland illustrations by Tove Jansson for a 1959 Swedish edition of the classic. To break away from the traditional Tenniel illustrations, Jansson would often illustrate new subjects from the book, such as Alice walking with her cat Dinah.
