Here is a Double page spread that I drew (in Batman/TMNT III#4), that references the cover of Ninja Turtles and is the only time (that I know of) where there is an "in-story" reason for the red sky: a clashing of universes that harken back to the originals! :)

Another Batman/TMNT crossover to check out is Batman/Teemage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures by and where Batman the Animated Series meets the 2012 Ninja Turtles. It's also collected in graphic novel format. You can't go wrong with either series. /2
