An easy-enough distinction today - but many (if not most) extinct phocoenids had long snouts like modern bottlenose dolphins! Here's one such example, Piscolithax tedfordi from the upper Miocene of Baja California - collections.

Janjucetus hunderi is an extinct whale from the Oligocene, 25 million years ago. It lacked a baleen system & instead had sharp teeth for ripping apart prey. At 3.5 metres long, it was about the same size a bottlenose dolphin.
