Robert McCloskey, author & illustrator of books like Make Way for Ducklings & Blueberries for Sal, was born in 1914. He won two Caldecott Medals. McCloskey said that he got tons of letters from folks around the world sending him photos of ducks crossing a street.

Probably at least once a week, I think about how deserves a more than anyone I can think of, but for some inexplicable reason it never happens. The fact that he hasn’t received one deeply undermines the credibility of the ‘s awards, imho!

If you were going to illustrate a dish running away with a spoon, Randolph Caldecott was your man (1846-86). He died so young, but he helped invent the picture book for children as we know it. I love his historic & rural English scenes. ☺️❤️
