Probably at least once a week, I think about how @heybilljoyce deserves a #CaldecottAward more than anyone I can think of, but for some inexplicable reason it never happens. The fact that he hasn’t received one deeply undermines the credibility of the @ALALibrary ‘s awards, imho!
Randolph Caldecott gave nursery rhymes both whimsy & history at once. His art helped invent the picture book (for all classes of children), & the Caldecott Medal is named for him. Here are some fun ones he did. ☺️📚💕

This Caldecott-winner said, “disgracefully incompetent” book reviewers would either:
• lavish “wild acclaim on a piece of artistic trash”
or
• destroy an illustrator’s career

If you were going to illustrate a dish running away with a spoon, Randolph Caldecott was your man (1846-86). He died so young, but he helped invent the picture book for children as we know it. I love his historic & rural English scenes. ☺️❤️
