Sketch card commission! Indrid Cold vs Sam Sinclair. Y'all already know who Indrid Cold is, of course...the mysterious Grinning Man. Sam Sinclair is the original protagonist character of the MetaZoo story that accompanies and contextualizes the game.

My final card illustration for MetaZoo: Nightfall! This was one of a few that were re-releases of cards that had been seen in Cryptid Nation, but as a second version with new art. In this case, the ever-popular Gumberoo! I love Gumberoo! Sweet Gumberoo. Gumberbaby. Lil Gumbles...

This is the only creature that I designed brand-new for MetaZoo: Nightfall. The Moca Vampire is sort of a precursor to the more famous legend of the Chupacabra--which has existed in MetaZoo previously--and you can understand these two livestock-nibbling beasties as being cousins.

Another card for MetaZoo: Nightfall. Joshua Tree just seemed like the right location for a meteor shower.

Another card for MetaZoo: Nightfall. "Index". No preliminary sketch for this one; I just fully improvised what I was doing right on the final art. I think this painting is the single most purely JoJo Seames style piece of art in the whole game. 😅

This is a particular favorite card that I did for MetaZoo: Nightfall. "Stalactites." Just really satisfying to put together. I was asked to add some prehistoric paintings to the cave wall, of different cryptids, so I added Sinkhole Sam, Mothman, Bigfoot, and Chupacabra.

Another MetaZoo: Nightfall card—Smokey Spirits! Was gonna do a cut, faceted glass bottle, but when I was asked to add a bunch of occult symbols to it, I changed to have bubbles along the sides with space for etchings. Look close; you can see the faces of more ghosts still inside!

You've seen the announcement already, but here's a better look at something pretty neat! I painted this Hodag as part of a line of MetaZoo skateboards being produced by Revive! They're going to be out some time in early 2022!

Has this already been discussed elsewhere?
The Quetzalcoatlus looks more like a Quetzalcoatl?

Squonk! Another matted 5x7 original ink-and-watercolor painting that will be available for auction at the MetaZoo unboxing livestream hosted by Whatnot!

Desert cryptids! I did this last month as a birthday gift for Mike Waddell, the creator of MetaZoo. Took a while to get to him, but this painting is now at home in the MetaZoo offices.

My one Terra card for MetaZoo: Cryptid Nation, Snowing! (Or Snow, as I had been told it was going to be called. If I could have predicted that change, I would have painted the snowfall in progress! But the designer did a good job adding falling flakes for the final card!)

A particularly sinister cryptid from Pope Lick County, Kentucky! I've gotta confess, I was never happy at all with this background...maybe the nice people at MetaZoo would let me redo it before he's turned into a real card? He deserves a proper trestle bridge to lurk under...

Another spell card that I did for MetaZoo! Leaves! Sharp ones!

It's not just the creatures I've painted for MetaZoo! Here's my illustration for the Ice Storm spell card!

4 14

Anther local-type cryptid that I got to illustrate for MetaZoo! The river dino is a sweet (but bitey) prehistoric holdover who can be found scampering through the canyons and washes of the Southwest!

5 16

A MetaZoo cryptid with a voracious appetite! Like some more familiar members of the weasel family, the Snow Wasset's fur changes color with the seasons, but UNLIKE weasels, it also sheds its legs in the fall to let it slither through heavy winter snow drifts in search of prey!

Happy International Cat Day! Here's my beloved hometown cryptid, the Cactus Cat, who staggers through the desert, ripping open cactuses with its claws to drink their delicious fermented juice! As a proud Tucsonan, I of course insisted on illustrating this creature for MetaZoo!
