Elric is a hugely complex character; not quite a tragic hero, not quite an anti-hero. Moorcock's concise style in describing him in his world adds to the sense that an elegant but intense narrative is being offered to the reader.

Yoshitaka Amano is probably most well known for his works on the Final Fantasy series. But in his early career, he also did cover illustrations for many of the Japanese versions of Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champions stories.

I really love his take on Elric of Melniboné.

The goblins are having a night off. So instead I give you 'The Sea Chariot of Rowernarc', a scene from Michael Moorcock's 'Phoenix in Obsidian'. Painted in 1977, it was one of 12 images commissioned by Big O to be published as posters & a calendar (Wizardry & Wild Romance 1978)

This is the start, base, for the next image.. Elric again. When it comes the brilliant fantasy I do think Moorcock... lol, Michael Moorcock.. the world of Elric and the Young Kingdoms is just so rich :) Early books were... difficult to re-read. "Storm Elric Rising BASE":

Não joguei The Witcher, não assisti essa série aí também, mas toda imagem que vejo da série rolando aqui na timeline eu sempre lembro de um personagem chamado Elric de Melniboné, de Michael Moorcock.

In this essay, Michael Moorcock also heaps praise on a statue of Elric adapted from Yoshitaka Amano's work by another GOAT master, Takayuki Takeya. Moorcock says it's on par with the best of Art Nouveau!

Finding a collection of Michael Moorcock stories that you’d never heard of is like stumbling upon a pirate’s cave full of treasure. Somebody come get me in a few days if I haven’t surfaced...

Like...turning every page reveals something truly incredible. The story (so far) is something between Final Fantasy and Moorcock's Elric books: a lone Samurai wandering space and time in search of the woman he loves. So yeah...I'm here for that. Big time.
