I love main canon Lyrical Nanoha being a multimedia franchise w/ material set over TV, manga & CD Dramas. Even the movie retellings get a connection to canon.
But I understand why that'd turn some people away. "Why can't the anime alone tell me everything" and things like that.

Yeah, it changes *way* too much to be an accurate retelling and skims over events too quickly.

The inaccurate retellings are annoying because they always go down differently from what we already know. For example, Venom and MJ's first meeting.

I actually hadn't seen any of the non-Z Dragon Ball movies until recently. Gotta say, I loved returning to the cartoony fun and wonder that came with OG Dragon Ball. These are very unique, if somewhat awkwardly paced retellings of Dragon Ball's story that I do recommend watching.

‘Jiraiya monogatari’ 自来也説話 is a vendetta tale with supernatural elements more or less translated from Chinese sources. It inspired retellings in song, woodblock prints, & on stage, leading eventually to the gōkan we’re looking at in this Episode.
