A remarkable link between the number of nearby supernovae and life on Earth has been discovered. Evidence demonstrates a close connection between the fraction of organic matter buried in sediments and changes in supernovae occurrence [read more: https://t.co/2e2PaMokJQ]
Nothrotherium torresi in sediments related to humid conditions, supporting the idea that members of the Nothrotheriinae had great ecological tolerance and was capable of inhabiting climates ranging from cold and arid to warm and humid. Second image shows a skull of Arctotherium
The inland sea is home to several species of walrus. Most common is the borgu, a suction feeding gomphotarid that specializes in worms, using their mustaches to feel for prey in the sediment of the seagrass meadows.

Bringing back a character I haven't drawn in a bit, ESRT dressed up as a nurse! She knows nothing in the medical field but at least she can identify sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, which won't help at all... Oh well, it's only cosplay.

We can see cities during the day and at night, and we can watch rivers dump sediment into the ocean, and see hurricanes form.

Most Icelandic rivers have their source at one of the numerous glaciers. Along the way to the sea, they transport vital nutrients for the ecosystem in form of sediment, which results in the very abstract colors.

posting a preview of this dude again with some mud/sediment markings, I wanted a Viking look so I wouldn't unintentionally use markers that relate to indigenous tattoos/face paints. But since modern viking depictions take/have similar looks to indigenous traditional looks-

Communities living in the Tigris-Euphrates basin faced periodic changes. One of these was the shifting courses of the rivers, the result of sedimentation/erosion & manmade efforts.
These changes had legal & economic ramifications & were imbued with spiritual significance.

Some creatures in the shallows of Capital Inlet, part of Two Sky River in the birrin 'verse. Mudplates filter the sediment for organics while schools of sand and sea-darts seek prey with their keen eyesight.
Lake Erie's Long Point is outlined in turquoise in this natural-color satellite image. The pale color is likely due to limestone sediments in the shallow waters getting resuspended by a seiche or other disturbance.

I’m excited to share our new paper, out now in @PNASNews. We used #fossil #shark scales (denticles) preserved in coral reef sediments to reconstruct the pre-exploitation baseline of a reef shark community in Caribbean Panama. https://t.co/Sbl0sOm0J2 @odealab @mccauley_lab (1/18)
Sable shaping up beautifully. There's much to love, but I think I have a fav: look at the vivid bands of sandstone! Sediment rings of deep time. Sable has everything to do with layers of history, archaeology & strata. The crushed temporal ribbons are a fantastic symbol of that.
The 1959 discovery of the OH 5 #hominin skull led to the first K-Ar age determination of sediments at Olduvai by Garniss Curtiss. Finding them to be 1.75 Ma—triple the expected age—he wrote: "One thing is certain. Olduvai Man is old, old, old!" #paleoanthropology #FossilFriday
