We thought we could all do with 5 minutes of meditation this week. Transport yourself to the South of France with a slow look at Van Gogh's 'Wheatfield, with Cypresses': https://t.co/SctND73z3Q

#VanGogh of the Day: Wheatfield with Cypresses, September 1889. Oil on canvas, 72.1 × 90.9 cm. National Gallery, London. @NationalGallery
By May 1890 Vincent moved to N France to Auvers-Sur-Oise, under the care of Dr Gachet. Two of his last landscapes are the ominous Wheatfield under Thunder Clouds & Wheatfield with Crows. They echo his mental state & struggle (he said they represented his sadness & loneliness)

35. Wheatfield with Cypress by Vincent van Gogh
The wheat, the tree, the hills, even the earth and the sky, the very air itself - they all seem like living things, and are teeming around us.

The corncockle of the pattern's name is one of its smaller motifs, the pink flower seen here. The plant, Agrostemma githago, was once a common wildflower of wheatfields and other agricultural land. It is rarer today because of modern farming methods.
