Well in the 90's they decided to Have Roger Stern reveal who he planned and made a mini to make it canon, so Ned was just the poor sap who got caught in Roderick's scheme....and well let's get to now.

The original intention for Hobby was Roderick Kingsley a MINOR character introduced in some Roger Stern comics, and this was set up with various clues at the time but this didn't happen.
