Why were there two different Sonic cartoons by DiC airing within the same period?

I recently spoke with DiC Exec VP Robby London about Carmen Sandiego, but I couldn't resist asking him this unrelated question.

He told me the internet has it all wrong. Here's the REAL reason.

Another series that I was a storyboard artist on was The New Archies. A animated series produced by DIC, based on the characters by Archie Comics. The series was originally produced for NBC's Saturday morning schedule and broadcast in 1987.

I'm glad I was too busy to work on Hammerman which was produced by DIC and starred rapper MC Hammer, which aired on ABC in the fall of 1991. A very silly series.
