The Simurgh is a giant mythical bird from Persian mythology. Similar to the Chimera, it has many different animal parts that make up its body. Namely a body of a peacock, claws of a lion and a face of either a dog or human.

As I was walking all alane,
I heard twa corbies makin a mane.
The opening lines of The Twa Corbies (crows) an old Scottish ballad. A dark, cryptic tale about the murder of a knight. It is hinted that the knight was less than chivalrous and deserved his fate.
The birds held a great competition to decide their king. A little wren perched itself on an eagle’s back and stayed there until the eagle could fly no further. The wren then leapt off and flew ahead, winning the competition and becoming king!

Then the bird flew away and began to sing:
"My mother, she killed me,
My father, he ate me,
My sister Marlene,
Gathered all my bones,
Tied them in a silken scarf,
Laid them beneath the juniper tree,
Tweet, tweet, what a beautiful bird am I!"

In the Grimm Brothers version of Cinderella, Aschenputtel, instead of getting help from a fairy godmother, birds from the hazel tree that grew at her mother’s grave bring Aschenputtel a dress and gold slippers for the ball.
