I always thought than mephiles design was a result of a lack of time/money, yet it's one of the thing from 06 that would keep even if I had all the time and money in the world to remake it.

Mephiles the Dark is probably never coming back (shame really. STH 2K6 was profoundly awful but there’s potential to be found in the character — beyond the fact that his arc is over). That said, he had a very neat design beyond being “Shadow’s shadow” or “Shadow’s crystal shadow”
