Objection! The Maximal leader was clearly already named 'Optimus Primal' in the original bat/gator two-pack! He and Megatron being intended to be incarnations of the G1 Optimus and Megatron is...debatable, in my opinion.

I used to assume this was because of Sentinel's color scheme from G1 comics design, and other comic designs.
