Here you can see that shift to the cold foreground and warmer sunlight on the bard. I sometimes forgo a detailed line-art and just jump right into the painting from the colour sketch. This is an organic and fun way to paint if I am confident in the scene.4/6

Watercolour first so the black background in graphite will go cleaner around it, and make the florals pop a little.
Sometimes it’s better to do the background after, if you’re working with an opaque medium. It can pick the foreground up and make it more lively.
