As a child I was mad about ‘My Naughty Little sister’. Shirley Hughes’ illustrations were a huge influence on my wanting to be an artist when I grew up.Only today I spotted this illustration and realised just how much her work subliminally influenced me. What a legacy she leaves.
Another picture book legend laid to rest 💔 Shirley Hughes illustrative genius will no doubt live forever
Not gonna lie, Shirley freaked me out in Azure. I always feel so bad for the fucked up kids of Trails.
Ignoring the groping stuff, Shirley really grew on me. She's got a sick weapon, and I love that she became an enforcer. I'd love to see more of her and Randy interacting.
Aw maaaan, this hits hard. Every Gen Xer had a Dogger. Thank you Shirley ❤️

Very sad to hear of the death of Shirley Hughes, whose words and drawings will live long. R.I.P.
I still have my original paperback copy of #MyNaughtyLittleSister which cost 25p. It was one of my favourite childhood books - she's still one of my favourite fictional characters brought to life through #ShirleyHughes' wonderful illustrations.

R.I.P, love, light and happiness, the amazing and beloved #ShirleyHughes whose illustrations and stories were at the heart of so many childhoods, mine included 💗
As I pore over the messages about dearest #ShirleyHughes serious digging has commenced in the road outside. The house is vibrating. I am taken straight back into her wonderful story The Big Concrete Lorry.
Journey well lovely Shirley Hughes. You brought us such joy ❤️

Shirley Hughes taught me that heaven is in the everyday light of ordinary moments like these. That is where she will forever be, for me and for every child who enters her pages.
Sad to hear the news of Shirley Hughes but her words and pictures live on ❤️
Oh, Shirley Hughes. Did anyone capture childhood better? https://t.co/EU60vl0tUu
I had the surprise pleasure of walking with #ShirleyHughes back to the tube after a publishing event a few years ago; I was inwardly beside myself with delight. We chatted about illustration and bid each other a cheery goodnight.
A lifetime of lovely memories and influence.
