With the more detailed sketch, I personally tend to keep my cats quite angular, mostly made up of triangles and squares

Whereas with ponies, rounder shapes and edges are used for a more bouncy, less fluffy shape

Well, might as well hop in! I normally draw Roblox YT content, so this is my forte, and I do have a little bit of experience with Roblox Studio for background work if need be. I tend to make my own thumbnails and I think my style should work well, especially in a simpler format.

He works in a very water color like manner. Barely any colors are used on the skin. Lot's of areas are left white. black surfaces are usually just flat ink. Clothes also tend to be flat colors (with some minor lighting details), unless he wants to make something look rubbery.
