Thanks for raising this! Tao’s complexion in Alice’s work has ranged so much and I happened to use one of the drawings where he’s pale as a reference. Tao is Chinese and when reading the comics, I imagined him pale. Similarly, I sometimes make Charlie darker -

I never really stopped to think about how similar a lot of my favorite pieces of media are. Something about kids/groups of friends going on big crazy other worldly adventures is always just such a comforting and fun concept to me.
