super old example, but you can literally just draw squiggles and it'll block it in for you :) if you dont use CSP you can use any kind of "lasso tool" for a similar effect!

i only use that method for high res meshes, i often rebuild extracted game meshes for low resolution patterns for pepakura, in which i prefer to clean up with quads
I use crease tool to think about the pattern seamlines before exporting it
