Vargas became widely known in the 1940s as the creator of the iconic pin-ups for Esquire magazine known as Varga Girls. Between 1940 and 1946 Vargas produced 180 paintings for the magazine. The art on American WW II aircrafts was inspired by these pin-ups.

Lois de’ Fee (1918-2012) was the 6’4” “Queen of the Amazon” in the 1938 New York World’s Fair Amazon Exhibit. She was a top-grossing headliner of burlesque throughout the 1940s and into the 1950s, making $400 a week. She married 5 times & adopted her daughter Star in 1941.

Gordon Parks

Gordon Parks was a self-taught photographer, writer, composer, and filmmaker. Parks is remembered as the first African American photographer who worked for Vogue and Life magazines, best known for his documentary photojournalism of the 1940s through 1970s.
