UNDERRATED ANIMATED MOVIES (a thread)
Who remembers Treasure Planet? It didn’t do well in domestic box office, but it’s one of Disney’s last 2D classics and one of my personal favorites.
Concept art of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” sequence from Disney’s FANTASIA (1940).
Animation art from Disney’s THE SWORD IN THE STONE (1963). Beautiful color keys by Walt Peregoy: not a name you hear a lot it seems when it comes to Disney art. In interviews he always seemed kind of bitter.
Animation art by Mary Blair for Disney’s SALUDOS AMIGOS (1942) / THREE CABALLEROS (1944).
Peter Ellenshaw concept art for Disney’s THE BLACK HOLE (1979).
The Room’s Jacob Tremblay and Crazy Rich Asian’s Akwafina have been cast as Flounder and Scuttle respectively in Disney’s live action adaptation of #TheLittleMermaid
More animation art from Disney’s FANTASIA (1940). Let’s not be needlessly cheap when it comes to this film.
🎬Disney’s ‘Hercules’ premiered in theaters 22 years ago today, June 27, 1997
Millicent Patrick’s contributions to films have been mostly forgotten. She acted in 21 films, drew concept art for dozens and was Disney’s first female animator. In Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954), she designed the beast but Bud Westmore claimed he did and got full credit.

Spent some time at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Now all I want to do is make s’mores. #illustration #bear #disney #wilderness #camping #CAMPFIRE #smores
Pastel concept paintings by James Coleman (first image) and Mel Shaw for Disney’s THE BLACK CAULDRON (1985).
I hope somewhere, somehow, Howard Ashman knows that an entire generation has been singing his words for 30 years. —- From Disney’s tribute “To our friend Howard, who gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul, we will be forever grateful.” #lgbtHeroes #pride #HowardAshman
Some of Mary Blair’s magical concept paintings for Disney’s PETER PAN (1953).
Production cels from the “Waltz of the Flowers” sequence from Disney’s FANTASIA (1940).
