Instead of wrapping up literally a single ongoing plot point Claremont spent his last Excalibur arc jumping through contrived narrative hoops so he could find an excuse to do an issue where Kitty Pryde becomes a cheerleader. That's Excalibur alright.

GIJoe. Claremont/Silverstei X-Men. Batman: Death in the family. Kravens last hunt.

And in the follow up (Uncanny 252) Claremont and Leonardi go full Frank Miller and reinvent Wolverine as Dark Knight Returns Batman with Jubilee as Carrie Kelly.

Some Chris Claremont-written work done in his exile period post-X-Men and pre-Sovereign 7.

OMG the FF part of the Claremont special even has the black version of Namor (from his Exiles run) who is married to Sue Storm and one of their kids is Gambit for some reason that makes no sense in any reality and I am dying

“you understand the consequences if my own technology is turned against me” I’m pretty sure this novel takes place in doom’s past..... thinking about claremont doom armor arc in silence LMAO

You can tell Claremont knew he was on his way out the door because he keeps doing gags about how dumb crossovers are and complaining about X-Factor. He did an entire issue with Liefeld just dunking on the DC crossover Invasion for some fucking reason. https://t.co/D4yBo6y2XS

12. Fantastic Four vs. X-Men 1-4. Claremont and Bogdanove doing Fantastic Four by way of X-Men means every character gets put through the wringer and broken down to their emotional core so they can be built back up. Really confident storytelling, heartbreaking AND lots of fun.

Claremont didn’t get the chance to complete his vision for the character (departing Marvel midway through an arc that featured David), but he laid the groundwork for a deeply unconventional character that later authors could build upon in both comics and television. 6/6

Great imagery from Debt of Honour - the excellent graphic novel from X-Men writer Chris Claremont. Art by Adam T. Hughes & Karl C. Story, with colourist Tom J. McCraw. The cover image was by Dave Dorman.

10. Kill the Beyonder (Uncanny 202-203) Claremont and JRJR aren't particularly known for "cosmic" but they GO FOR IT here. Kitty uses Illyana's Soul Sword, and Rachel mindlinks with every life form in the entire universe to beat some dude in a tracksuit. Big weird cosmic comics.

4. Two Girls Out to Have Fun (Uncanny 189) Rachel and Magma go on a date ❤️. Leialoha's blocky inks are perfect for JRJR's blocky shapes and I wish they had done more work together. Claremont predicts 9/11 in this one. Great forgotten done-in-one issue.

Is it Cheating to use an omnibus? I don't care, making my own rules!
1. X-Men: Dark Phoenix by Claremont, Byrne, & Austin (love this original trade cover - it's the version I bought way back when)
2. DC New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke
3: Strangers in Paradise Omnibus by Terry Moore

As Joseph Darowski () notes in his analysis of pre-Claremont Jean Grey, “though Marvel Girl’s powers are an asset, she frequently is too physically weak to use them or a man must direct her because she is too emotionally frail” (49). 2/4
