To create space in the bone marrow for the healthy cells, the sickle cell patient is placed on chemotherapy to eliminate the unhealthy cells.

Then, receives healthy bone marrow cells through the vein donated by a donor.

In sickle cell patients, the problem is the "RED BLOOD CELLS (RBC)"

The normal RBC is flexible and oval biconcave disks in shape but in sickle cell patients the RBC is like a sickle in shape and it's rigid.

Bone marrow transplant replaces the damaged cells with healthy ones.
