i think i've found a better way to deal with gradients with limited colors. pixel/hash brush in 3 different values, posterize into 3, and then it's easy to wand and fill just 3 colors as the aliased edges became hard pixel edges instead.

I commissioned for a new icon! I love it so much! I did make some changes from the original, namely adding the gradient background, changing the colour of the star, added a glow and moved it (it would've been cropped out in its original place when seen as a circle)
