You just wanted designs. Here's some modern along with a possible plain poncho sort of idea that he may look good in. Also try rain or cold with a coat or something.

Cleaner lines help a lot in simpler drawings I cleaned up the arm as an example
The line art needs more contrast it blends in with the hair a bit
The skirt looked a bit detached from the torso
And adding filters to the colors can help them look better and less plain
