I first start in my 3D application and start with a simple cube without subds and start extruding it down, blocking roughly the hair curves and adding loops to improve the flow. Then I import to Zbrush for refining.

These hands look very stylized.
I struggle w/hands myself. Redrew a Joker hand literally 8x (or more lol) til I was roughly happy with it. Even looked at my own hand and still gave me fits!

I really like it...but I find dip pens frustrating so I use a Lamy Vista fountain pen with a converter and charge it with Indian ink. This is my card with that technique. Only think is to remember to wash the pen out thoroughly after.
