The first transcontinental railroad was completed May 10, 1869. Illustrations from Locomotive, photo from 150th anniversary commemorations at Promontory Summit two years ago. (Two years, but it feels like more; there was travel, there were crowds! We were outdoors, though.)

Krita is an option as well. It is a free, open-source, cross-platform app. Not as snazzy as Clip Studio, but it makes big leaps forward with crowdfunding. Has vector, perspective tools, etc.
