The three new Pokémon are TOTALLY based off the dog, monkey and pheasant from the story of Momotaro! I bet you have to team up with them to fight the green mask legendary which will totally become a big Oni or something... VERY COOL

So yeah it looks like the new Pokemon's designs are very likely based off the three animals that Momotaro befriended in the the Japanese folktale: Tale of Momotaro.

Ogerpon, just by the name and design is no doubt based off the ogre/oni of the story too.
