If you can actually get down to 4 then you haven't played enough games. So lets try... for specifically. I kinda stopped playing them after the SNES as you can tell. The genre peaked with CT imo. Honorable Mention to Final Fantasy Legend 3 (SaGa3).

Ezra was a honorable Fairy commander. Long story short, he became corrupted by the Dark . So he committed suicide to prevent the corruption, but the Dark brought him back to life, and made him kill all his people. Now, he's fighting the internal Dark which wants him to kill.
