My favorite Iceman story is Uncanny X-men 340, when his father is beaten for standing up against anti-mutant hate.

But I think the character peaked during Operation Zero Tolerance. He really had to mature-up and lead a ragtag group of mutants against Bastion's Prime Sentinels.
