Just a reminder to keep a few pennies aside for these lush specimens this weekend at @tfnationltd! £10 each, don't you know.
#OnThisDay in 1908, a pickaxe struck the side of a remarkable skull. It was the discovery of the Neanderthal known as the Old Man from La Chapelle, one of the most important specimens in the history of paleoanthropology. #fossils https://t.co/PZpEKfSiqe
@stephens_helen The first images Europeans saw of Birds of Paradise were drawings from dead specimens. The legs had been cut off so for years people thought they were legless and were perpetually in flight.
Photos don't do it any justice -- exploring this Mesozoic Gallery room with fossil specimens glowing underfoot was absolutely magical! ☄️

Pterosaur feathers
by @JoschuaKnuppe
Pterosaurs are known to have been covered in hair-like pycnofibers. Two specimens of anurognathids show that some pycnofibers were brush- or tuft-shaped and probably share an evolutionary origin with feathers.

I’m jumping on the #PortfolioDay right about… now. I’m Daniel. I’m a production artist at a Boston-ish game studio, but I also like to illustrate weird museum specimens. Also blobfish. https://t.co/mWTfowhxQL
they had a live butterfly exhibit and there were some beautiful specimens
Summertime is fascinating! I had no idea there were so many organic specimens with big eyes like mine! 💖

On the #cataloguing table today, so hard to resist a #fernFriday! 'Gleanings among the British Ferns; illustrated by dried specimens' / Jane M. Patison (London: William Pamplin, 1858).

The term "printer's devil" describes a person, often a boy, who is not quite yet an apprentice in a printing establishment, and is given tasks including mixing ink and gathering type. (1/7)
(This devil with a composing stick is from the 1900 ATF Desk Book of Type Specimens.)

#mermay days 29 & 30 are Melanotaenia boesemani (boesemani rainbowfish) and Iriatherina werneri (threadfin rainbowfish)! I took some liberties with the colors but it's still possible to find specimens with coloration similar to this! They are boyfriends. 🌈🐟🧜♂️💖🧜♂️🐟🌈
Macro lens proving its worth for tiny dino bits. Some close-ups on the teeth of two Lesothosaurus specimens @NHM_London. These cute little gnashers would have been slicing up plants (and maybe small prey) some 200 million years ago in what’s now Lesotho #NHMdino #FossilFriday
