the trick for really selling this as kinda transparent without actually using transparency is that there's an outline mesh set to a desaturated color that kinda matches the background and setting its dissolve at a slight offset, like some very unusual form of antialiasing

Here comes King Eret...
I've been wanting to draw him in his new hairstyle.

No:
-consistent sized, thin lineart
-desaturated, cool, pastel colors
-minimal, cell shading
-cartoony/anime-ish

Once Alice goes down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland we rarely ever see the sky again, and if there is some bit of sky it's usually painted in an unusual desaturated color. It helps make it all feel very claustrophobic and disorienting, almost like she really is underground.

Heya!! Names Jason! I'm a self taught, transgender FTM artist!! I tend to use desaturated colors and make tons of fanart. I draw a lot of boys as I find the female figure to be harder to accomplish-
I do like to make adopts, of which I haven't sold the one that's available. :')

I redrew the outfit I drew the other day cause I felt it looked too simple and too desaturated in its colour palette; so I made the colours more saturated and added some ashen elements... I think it looks better... plus I think those pointy shoes match 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

Desaturated colors look SO nice if you are careful with them.

WHEW that hurt me. It looks kinda ok tho? I can still see my style in it but i tried to replace all the parts you guys mentioned as part of my art 'trademarks'. So I used desaturated colors, tried to make everything more angular and, well, the lineart. ye. https://t.co/fZ3IaMK1N9

Day 9 of was the Basset Hound. I'm not super sure how I ended up going so desaturated for this, but I kind of like it.

attempted the challenge with
and loll

i got:
1) no sharp jawlines
2) no default eye shape
3) no painterly shading
4) no desaturated colours
5) no sketchy lines

normal style vs afterwards

warm* + cool tones help inject more color into the skin. if you have difficulty finding a color that works with your palette u can try using a multiply layer instead.

*my red here is SUPER desaturated compared to what i usually use, due to the lighting in this particular piece.

To make interactable game objects and characters stand out even more from the background like these thorns I'm thinking of doing them in a kind of different style. Mainly they'll be lined and be more colorful. The background is lineless and desaturated.
