You can definitely see it in the earlier days of Pokemon art he did (concept art of Crono attached for comparison).
These two are kinda the same. Big buff robots, almost sharing the same body shape with shoulder pads included, usually paired with a small blue boy, said blue boy has to use them in a sort of way. There's prolly more comparisons but I can't think of anything.
