Round where I live there are some really steep streets, and the Victorians seemed to just build houses in the shape of the street. So you have these houses with really lopsided roofs on them.

bet! for good shading you always have to think about where the light source is! Like for example in this picture the sun seemed to be reflecting on the water from the left side so I put in some shadows that sorta make it feel like it really is coming from there.
