Saddened by the death of Jan Pieńkowski–what a voice, what vision, range & facility. Work full of fun, fear, whimsy & dignity. A wartime refugee as a child from Poland, a gay man working in a homophobic society, he made in his art strange, uncertain & delightful places of safety.
