Joker demands that Batman meet him alone ("the old come on game" apparently) and when he arrives, Joker is there with the other Four Cards. Joker demands that they play a poker gamed with death as the stakes, but Queenie recognizes Batman as Bruce from the cut on his chin.
Later, Bruce hits the deck of the Deck to light a cigarette (40s comics, wow) and overhears Queenie and the crew talking about the Joker. He gets caught and tossed overboard much to Queenie's chagrin. Bruce pretends to die, but actually goes home to dry off and Batman up.
Okay so Bruce goes onto the ship because he just thinks it's suspicious for some reason, and there he meets and flirts with Queenie who, of course, is into him. And she's a pretty smart cookie, that Queenie.
Well okay Batman is calling to me so I'm back to this. Beginning with Batman #5, which I believe has the first appearance of Bruce's next love interest, Linda.

Rereading this last night, I was distracted by David Lopez’s Bruce, who is in fact, a walking pair of Cheekbones™. Then it occurred to me this is very...Robert Pattinson.
So they know Robin out (man maybe he was such an angry young man because of brain danage). he spends more time unconscious than awake. So they leave him on the subway tracks, which Dick handles in the exact way Bruce handled the truck - rolling between their wheels.
Since it's hard to keep up with these slippery devils it's sure lucky that Bruce and Dick developed rocket powered roller skates.
JFC I suddenly got the impulse to keep track of Bruce's gadgets but even I'm not that crazy.
I believe this is the first time Dick is referred to as his ward - previously he was always called Bruce's "aide." Anyway since the devils are stealing diamonds Bruce figures they'll need to find a fence, so they decide to observe the two major fences in Gotham.
