Depends on the character imo. Some characters like Salem or Cinder benefit from being evil because it compliments the notion of them being seductresses.

Other evil characters don't benefit from that characteristic as much, because being sexually dominant would be OOC for them.

I used a gamut mask to determine a complimentary palette for this owl/heart illustration.

Get the base colors, make two light and two dark value variants of them, and then color pick only from it. It makes using broken color easier—you know choices won’t clash.
