[Smear] makes it so brushes can blend without adversely affecting its texture. It generally benefits brushes that couldn't have their mixing enabled before because of the way they messed with the pixels underneath.

I think "smear" is kind of the opposite of what it does.

one of the designs i had the most trouble w for tumble time was bleak sword. just didn’t know how to tackle the character.

then i decided to lean into the idea of them being pixels so… i made them tiny! and it became one of my fav characters in the dang game
