I sometimes get disheartened when I see just how good other artists are compared to me but looking back on how much I've improved is super encouraging!

I don't subscribe to the idea that you have to be good at an art medium to judge a work of art of that medium. Like you don't have to be able to program to judge if a game is good or bad. And you don't need to be skilled at painting to see where a painting can be improved.
