Linda Lewis
Debut: Tec 48
A singer at the Top Hat Club in Gotham City and the daughter of a millionaire. She is a woman of the month whose attraction to Bruce and vice versa is used to pull him into a plot involving breaking into Ft. Stox (the knox equivalent).
They find the guys breaking into Ft. Stox from below, and man does Bruce have awesome timing. I think he's actually a metahuman but his only power is perfect timing.
Bruce gets into an altercation with the thugs of the moment, and... forgets to tie them up? Dude. That's hilarious this would never happen today.
But Bruce's batsense is tingling so he looks in on Linda and starts looking for her, then goes to check Renaldo's apartment where he overhears that she's gone to Kentucky.
Bruce is kind of surprised that he got stood up, and I'm kind of surprised that he's a big cheater-- err, I mean they could just be friends, it's fine.
And then we meet Linda herself, who Bruce asks out, excuse ME Bruce you're engaged! It's just as well though because when she's getting ready for the movie, she gets approached by a stalker and shoots him, oops.
Stacy the Gambler
Debut: Batman #4
A gambling goon who suspects Bruce Wayne is Batman, but gives up the theory when fooled by puppets and acting. He really wants his football team, The Lions, to win an upcoming match, so he kidnaps and kills some people. Priorities: great.
Big fight scene... and then Batman and Robin escape and run straight for the barn that connects to the Wayne ... house, it's not a manor yet, rofl. Anyway they go there and disappear, which kind of backfires because Stacy notices Bruce's house is right nearby!
Well, at least they both know who they are talking about! 'Those War Reminiscences' - this week's centenary Fragment. Another gem from Bruce Bairnsfather, first published in The Bystander 100 years ago today, on 15 Sept 1920.
Meanwhile the goons go back to Stacy, WHO JUST CASUALLY IS LIKE, "I bet Batman is Bruce Wayne. Otherwise wtf is he doing visiting crime scenes with Gordon?"
JFC this guy is clearly the smartest villain in the rogues gallery.
Bruce decides to use his greatest weapon against McCoy: Dick in a costume. In this case it's a shoeshine boy costume which he uses to listen in on the newly reformed McCoy gang. He finds out that Jimmy's gang is going to be causing problems, while Costello also finds that out
Bruce really has lost his sense of humor of the years.
Anyway so Blackbeard has Robin walk the plank and bruce loses his shit and beats all the pirates up and then jumps into the ocean to save him - this is what I call BatDad instinct but I can feel Werthem twitching even now.
ALSO, LOOK i know Bruce's reliance on tech is a sore spot for many people but the man had a plan that turns into a boat in his second year of publishing, so calm down.
Anyway so back to Golden Age Batman for a while.
The second story of Batman #4 begins with Bruce and Dick fencing because even in 1940 they somehow sensed the coming of Ra's al Ghul... clearly!
Really digging the #RobertPattinson #brucewayne look with the longer hair, refreshing take on the character.
