Oekaki boards were the shit back in the early 2000's. I was drawing with a mouse back then. At the end of 2003 is when I got my first drawing tablet. I only improved from there. I also did traditional art alongside digital. I still do, actually.

The first cover is from the original 2000's comic, and the second cover is a guest artist's alternate cover.
It got adapted into a cartoon as well, which is most known due to being done by the Winx animation team. Although the way they adapted the designs is not very "anime"
