Artist highlight: Robert Duncanson

Robert Duncanson was born in 1821, a descendant of freed slaves from Virginia. He was one of the first black artists to achieve international recognition.

He was a great man. He was a part of the Civil War for the side that wanted to free the slaves, and he wanted to limit the amount of public hangings that were common at the time. He wanted to unite the United States and bring people together
