step 2. add a clipping layer, set it to multiply and pick a darker color to shade with (second slide explains further). i just shade wherever i think there would be a shadow lol but try to imagine where the light is coming from

All you have to do it is line up your sprite with the already existing sprite but you gotta be pretty pixel perfect so not clippings happen

But I DO often use the method of shading the entire drawing with only a few colors or greyscale first and then change it later. Clipping colors to my layers makes that process easier/more free to me and can focus on the lighting and shapes more
