At that point, I really think something akin to Kotabe's artstyle could help justify the design modernization and keep the distinctive outlines while also getting a lot more lively with its presentation of characters and giving Mario's 2D artwork the spotlight it deserves
@tg_bomze @lsegal @TLobinger @Rob__Milliken @h_bash Mario's results are ... interesting.
The third some was a solid attempt to provide something usable. M64 headshot, pixelated to 32px blocks.

Here's a Mario fan character I created. His name is Marsh and he is Mallow's little brother. If Mallow and Nimbus Land ever appears in a future Paper Mario game if Square Enix allows Nintendo to, he would become one of Mario's new partners.
My first assembly game as Mario's Cement Factory for the C64 is now available - https://t.co/LIBy2TxI0m #commodore #news
I feel like part of the reason why that one HD model mod for SM64PC looked so weird was because it used modern Mario's design, which inherently clashed with SM64's art style.
Something about his face proportions. even Odyssey Mario feels like an entirely different design.
Because Mario's VA is in JSRF
Im not the best designer for certain characters blending in whatever
Inspirations
The hat is on backwards + beanie like: Tab/Corn
The red shades: A bit of Yo-Yo
Headphones: Beat
The EarthBound trophies clearly are just recreations of the original game's clay artworks. Just like Mario's trophy, it's great to see in-game versions of models you otherwise only see in promotional artwork
Metal Mario's trophy is probably just the regular Mario model with a metal texture so nothing too special here, but what's interesting is the texture's reflection: it's the Yoshi's Island stage!
Meanwhile, Dr. Mario's trophy is based off the artwork of one of his earlier games from the NES and SNES, and it's clearly not just reusing regular Mario's model. Very interesting to see two distinct eras of Mario designs represented here
There's a wonderful fanrom For @VinnyVinesauce #Vinesauce called Mario's Mystery Meat. One of the NPC's is glorious Ducksu. They quiz you... Gongaga? Wrongaga.
This is pretty much one of my fav #smg4fanart pics i've made thus far, kinda an epilogue to Mario's inside story

(Disclaimer, they're in her bloodstream not her gut)
Since Paper Mario's look is based on small SMW Mario, I made a Big Paper Mario, based on big SMW Mario! #mario #PaperMario
