Interestingly, even after spending more time using pure paint as opposed to my initial technique of starting with grayscale and converting to color, the results are alarmingly similar save for better control over colors and natural brush textures. What do you think though?

Testing some colors! My favorite part because I will try to experiment all types of colors and layer fx. The main problem that I will forever encounter drawing in grayscale is that the colors doesn't respect the grayscale textures, and values; it will always feel unnatural.

While I do agree that we definitely need a slight improvement to the current model (not just shortening the quills or giving him slight realistic textures)

I feel like the current model used gets too much hate and can have a lot of potential when done right as proven by fans
