The 80s OVA is the "best" of the 3 adaptations of the manga, but that isn't saying a whole lot. It's not a complete adaptation and I'm not a fan of how soft the characters look.
That said they look really pretty and I adore kenji kawai's music. Plus it has based anthem in them.
