The blades do help with the cutting process, but are more culturally important than tactically, resembling the same shapes as the user's horns, plain Verinauvian cybernetics without their "horn shaped blades" are looked down upon.

Alongside my character design process, I was also slowly improving with my Graphic Design work too.
According to self-proclaimed "Mother of Sonic", Madeline Schroeder, Sonic's original design was meant to have fangs prominently featured, though this was removed during his localization process, much to the distaste of Sonic Team.
He still seems to have them every now and then.
