The Umakoshi discussion on the tl got me thinking about how his art has evolved to. His older stuff has more thick lines while his new stuff is more clean and soft. Both are amazing and I think this change is to adapt to Hori's new art but it's really cool to see the difference

when i really am artblocked i'll just leave it at that, and that's okay! but other things i do in the sketching phase are
- erasing the original thick sketch down to a more refined silhouette (see on the right in the pic)

sometimes an idea that i want to convey needs to be put on the canvas generally first, and thicker strokes make it easier to do that since they leave a huge space up for interpretation. it's basically why sketches exist in the first place! i go really big in my strokes for those:
