it's not very exciting! lots of adjusting levels, using masks to darken/lighten some areas, cleaning up stray pencil lines i couldn't erase, using multiply/screen layers to add depth.. that sort of thing!

@marissadraws these two are probably my best examples, first one didn't have the lit up parts erased on the shading layer but, aside from sylization, the shadows are mostly connected and then emphasized by a gradient, second one did have the lit up areas erased

@ComicsandCleave I like to think of drawing/painting as similar to sculpting to help give my forms 3D feel. Darker areas are “cut” into the page, lighter areas are like adding clay on top. Keeping in mind how light reacts with the forms is most important for rendering texture and everything else
Overlay erased in areas where I think appropriate. Having done it this way, I think it would have been easier to paint the overlay ON the stuff I wanted. Mostly because this is a low light drawing. Bet it goes the other way in a bright situation.
